The Sound Blanket Experience…

Just how it sounds - you will be wrapped and surrounded by the healing tones and vibrations of Tibetan Singing Bowls carefully positioned around your body as you lie fully clothed in a rest position on your back.

Here you will feel totally supported as you ‘tune-out’, restore and gently let go. This service is predominately about easing stress and anxiety, helping to take the edge off any difficult emotions while finding clarity within your own experience.

This is a genuine space that truly separates you from the barriers that prevent you from really ‘switching off’. Your nervous system will find the place of rest it so deeply craves, and you will carry this new sense of peace and calm with you for days to follow.

Each Sound Blanket appointment takes place at Urban Wellness in Port Adelaide, and includes the grounding sweet smells of Kindred Self essential oils and intention setting with Counsellor & Sound Therapist Kyrie Kohlhagen.

Tending to an overactive Nervous System…

When we are super busy and juggling multiple tasks our body functions in a stressed state and this can slowly become what seems like normal - but this way of being is not sustainable. When the 3 major stress hormones Cortisol, Norepinephrine and Adrenalin are in excess this creates a situation where all of our hormones are thrown out of balance. Over time stress affects our sleep, immune function, physical health and negatively impacts our mind and overall emotional resilience.

Anything we can do to switch-off our overactive sympathetic nervous system (the fight or flight response) and reactivate the para-sympathetic state (rest and digest) will help to bring us back into alignment to support our overall health and wellbeing.

Tibetan Sound Therapy is one of the most accessible ways to re-balance and reduce the side-effects of stress overall. This ancient healing modality utilises deep vibrations and soothing sounds to bring deep peace to the whole body, the nervous system and mind - and this feeling of true peace can last for many days following.

Preparing for your Sound Blanket Experience

Please wear loose comfortable clothing, preferably without buttons and belt buckles. You will be removing your shoes for the sound experience, so do bring a pair of socks if you prefer to keep your feet warm. There will also be the option to use a light throw rug and eye pillow to ensure you are completely comfortable.

After your Sound Blanket, you will feel very relaxed, so we suggest booking your appointment at a time where you don't need to rush around and do multiple things immediately afterwards. It's so beautiful to honour how you feel after your appointment and to make the most of this blissful state of being. You will still be alert enough to drive, and will feel refreshed to go back to work if needed.

Fragrance / Perfume

Our business is built around incorporating natural plant aromatics to support mental and physical health. Synthetic fragrance can have a negative impact to our overall health and therefore we maintain a fragrance free policy at our premises. Please avoid wearing any commercial perfumes the day of your appointment. Thank you.

Safe practices during pregnancy

It is inappropriate for pregnant women to be exposed to loud noise on or near their belly, for this reason no bowls are placed on the body during the sound healing if you are expecting. Please contact us prior to booking an appointment to discuss your treatment options.

Pacemakers

Tibetan singing bowl therapy may not be suitable for people who have a pacemaker or any metal device in the body. Please contact us prior to booking an appointment.

Appointments / Cancellations

Payment is only required on the day of your appointment, and can be made at the end of the session. We accept EFTPOS, Visa, Mastercard and cash payments.

Please respect that Kindred Self is a small business and we wish to help as many people as we can. With this in mind, it is important that you provide at least 24 hours notice via text, phone or email if you need to cancel your appointment. This will then provide enough time to make alternative arrangements to fill your appointment.

Parking

Nile Street has available street parking, some 2 hour parks, some unlimited. If no street parking on Nile is available on the day you visit, we recommend parking on St Vincent Street or in the waterfront car park off Nelson Street near the British Hotel. Alternatively, there’s additional public parking located at the end of Nile Street at Hart’s Mill / Flour Shed facility which is a 3-5 min walk to Urban Wellness.

Face Mask Policy

It is optional for Kyrie to wear a fitted face mask during your appointment, please let her know if this is your preference. If either feel unwell on the day of your appointment, have any symptoms, we can reschedule your appointment to another convenient time. Please make contact if you have any questions or concerns before your appointment by phone or email.

Hello ...

I have been described as a healthy tree hugging hipster, creative, motivated, dynamic, quirky, nurturing and resourceful! That’s a lot to live up to, but one thing I’m certain of: I'm still a work-in-progress.

But putting all labels aside, and seeing through other perceptions, deep down I’m just a 50 (something) year old girl whose core value in life is to feel fully connected. Connected to all living things: people, animals, nature and myself.

Kindred Self is my way to nourish this core value each and every day. I love to share stories, tender moments and support people who need nurturing and kindness in their life. I have a lot of that to give!!

How I arrived here ...

My path to Kindred Self began about 15 years ago when I first felt a strong sense that one day I would do healing work. A year or so later while travelling and staying at a Meditation Retreat in Cambodia, I was introduced to Psychotherapy / Transpersonal Counselling. The seed was deeply planted and my passion to support others has only grown since that moment.

I feel I have found my purpose, something that is heartfelt and supports me at my core. I can sit alongside multiple individuals in one day, truly hold a nurturing and supportive space for them and feel absolutely invigorated afterwards. That energy is felt by my clients.

Kindred Self ...

People choose massage for ongoing maintenance of the body and I believe counselling is the same. Tending to our emotions and feelings is just like a gentle massage for the heart and mind! Through maintaining a good balance between mind, body, emotions and spirit, we can purposely give any situation in life our best, kindred self.

Kindred represents the connection and resonance we can experience with others, and Self is a reminder that YOU are the most valuable thing that you have! So, Kindred Self is all about creating an experience to connect with and give back to yourself. In doing so, an opening for healing, self love, growth and abundant living is realised. 

Through my practise, my goal is to break down any stigma associated with mental and emotional health and to challenge the thought that therapy is something we only look to do when life gets tricky. Imagine the amazing growth and insight we could personally achieve when we are not clouded by our suffering!!
